Volunteering and Community Participation

During the COVID-19 pandemic
After the first case of COVID-19 in the region was reported on July 23, 2020, I worked with a team of volunteers from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Libya. Our duties were to collect data, perform laboratory analyses for people suspected of having the disease, and conduct educational campaigns to raise awareness about the pandemic among the public and healthcare workers. Part of our work during the pandemic is published here
During the floods of Storm Daniel
I also worked as a volunteer with the NCDC when Storm Daniel struck Libya on 10 September 2023 and caused the most catastrophic floods in the country’s history, especially in Derna City.
Our work in the flood area included giving vaccines to the rescue teams and periodically collecting water samples for lab analysis. In addition, I participated with a group of scouts and NCDC workers in collecting and delivering medicines, supplies and clothing to people in need in the affected area.
Our research team from the NCDC has outlined the most important health measures that the government should focus on during a period of flooding in Libya. Our published report can be read here.
